25-29 August 2025, Copenhagen, Denmark
ESERA 2025 Conference
THE 16TH CONFERENCE OF THE EUROPEAN SCIENCE EDUCATION RESEARCH ASSOCIATION
Welcome
With ESERA 2025, we envision a sustainable and international conference in the heart of Copenhagen. With the Department of Science Education as the formal host, we aim to stimulate fruitful conversations and big ideas using our region’s focus on sustainability, digitalisation, and science education.
We will look to develop the ESERA conference in new directions while still preserving traditions. We will design and test new formats for conference participation and presentation. We will organise a four-day pre-conference, where we aim to open the doors to schools, science organisations, museums, and centres.
To ensure that the ESERA conference remains a venue for diversity, we are putting extra effort into ensuring affordable accommodation, food, conference fees, and travel options in Copenhagen.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all in Copenhagen!

ESERA 2025 in Copenhagen
Imagine Kim, a science education researcher, who has just arrived at Copenhagen Central Station by train. As they make their way to the venue, they meet with other researchers heading to ESERA this year. They ask a passer-by for directions. The venue is just down the street, merely a five-minute walk away. The opening ceremony is interactive, and the presenting scientist and the science education researcher place the activity in a broader context through dialogue. Afterwards, lively conversations break out, where colleagues from around the world share thoughts and ideas. Several parallel sessions later, Kim and a couple of colleagues drift out to the awaiting city to discuss further and enjoy good food and drink. One was at the pre-conference, where they observed science teaching in an innovative school setting. Another is looking forward to the new presentation events on Thursday. Have people signed up for the morning run around the harbour area? After dinner, everybody finds their hotels – all of which are conveniently located nearby. This is good, as tomorrow they have presentations!
